Forty Years of Legal Excellence
A 1984 graduate of LSU Law School, Walt Sanchez has spent 40 years in private practice, earning an AV rating in Martindale-Hubbell—the highest possible rating for legal ability and ethical standards. Since 2007, his peers have continuously recognized him in Best Lawyers in America and Super Lawyers. Walt is not just an advocate; he is a specialist, holding a Board Certification in Family Law for over 30 years and a former member of the Louisiana Bar Association Board of Governors.
Expertise on the Bench
For 20 years, the Louisiana Supreme Court has trusted Walt to serve as Judge Pro Tempore in Sulphur and Lake Charles City Courts. This hands-on experience on the bench, combined with 30 years as a faculty member in the LSU Law School Trial Advocacy Program, has given him a unique perspective on the judicial system—one defined by fairness, efficiency, and a deep respect for the rule of law.
A Leader in Our Community
Walt’s commitment to Lake Charles extends far beyond the courtroom. As a former Board Member and Past President of the Port of Lake Charles, he played a critical role in local economic development. He has served SWLA as Past Chair and former Board Member for Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Past Chair and Trustee for LifeShare Blood Centers and is a Recipient of the Citizen of the Year from the SWLA Chapter of National Assn. of Social Workers. His selfless work has been honored with the Pro Bono Publico Award and the Judge Albert Tate Award for excellence in the profession.

A devoted husband for 39 years to Fran Sanchez, a father of four, and grandfather to six, Walt believes that strong families are the bedrock of a safe community. An active member of his church and American Mensa, Ltd., Walt is a conservative businessman who values honesty, hard work, and the protection of constitutional rights. He brings professional intelligence and humble faith to every aspect of his life.
